8L90E Level 3 is designed as an upgraded option for a factory equipped application. This can be used as a retrofit option, but the use of a standalone transmission controller will need to be used. If you are bolting a supercharger onto your LT-based engine, the strengthened internals are required to handle the immediate, aggressive power delivery.
